Program Philosophy
The Clavet Minor Hockey Association provides hockey programs that promote the importance and understanding of work ethic, good sportsmanship, discipline, team work and the fair treatment of others under all circumstances and all conditions. Minor hockey is developmental hockey. Our objective is to provide athletes at all levels with the instruction and the opportunity to develop their hockey skills (skating, puckhandling, passing, shooting, goaltending) and their hockey smarts (team play, positioning, offensive/defensive responsibilities, specific situation strategies) in a positive sport environment that builds and encourages teamwork, enthusiasm, hard work, and fun, both on and off the ice.
The Clavet Minor Hockey Association is affiliated with Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association as an Interlocking Center. Therefore all CMHA Tier II & III teams play in the SMHA leagues. All games are played in Saskatoon or Clavet.
The 2006-2007 season of Cougar hockey is under way! We have got a great group of more than 125 kids registered this year. They are excited to get on the ice with familiar teammates as well as some new faces that have joined the Cougar teams this season… welcome aboard. Most of the teams will have already played several SMHA league games and are quickly becoming solid team units. For more information on team contacts see the details below, while team schedule info and links can be found on the Schedule page.

Our objective is to provide athletes with the instruction and the opportunity to develop their hockey skills (skating, puckhandling, passing, shooting, goaltending) and their hockey smarts (team play, positioning, offensive/defensive responsibilities, specific situation strategies) in a positive sport environment that builds and encourages teamwork, enthusiasm, hard work, and fun, both on and off the ice. CMHA recognizes that good programs must include good leadership and instruction. The coaching staffs bring experience and passion to the programs. New coaches are encouraged to pursue clinics and seminars to further develop their skill and knowledge. They are expected to bring innovative and dynamic instructional skills and methods to practices and games. Their conduct is held to the same high standard as that of the players, both on and off the ice. CMHA is accepting applications for the 2007-2008 season from coaches who feel they can fulfill the dynamic program guidelines indicated above. If you have any questions, please contact the CMHA executive

CMHA teams play within the Saskatoon Minor Hockey Association leagues as an interlocking center. As such, CMHA teams play within the tiered system established by SMHA. CMHA enters teams in the SMHA Initiation, Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget divisions. The number of teams entered in each specific division is determined by the number of players registered in each respective division. SMHA guidelines dictate that in order to enter a Tier III team, an interlocking center must also enter a Tier II team. As of 2007-2008 season CMHA will also be entering one Pee Wee and one Bantam team in the Tier I AA City-Wide League. If the level of player ability in Novice, Atom or Midget in any one year is exceptional, consideration of entering a Tier I team will be evaluated.
Following CMHA registration in fall, a week long conditioning camp is held in Clavet for CMHA players from Novice to Midget (Initiation programming begins at a later date). Each division will have several individual on-ice sessions focused on power skating and skill development. Following conditioning camp, evaluation camps are held for those divisions with enough players to form multiple teams. Independent evaluator teams are employed by CMHA to provide as objective an evaluation as possible. The evaluator teams consist of individuals with extensive experience in the coaching, instruction and evaluation of player/goalie skill sets. Several ice sessions composed of skill tests, drills, and scrimmages are employed to evaluate the players as fairly as is possible. At the completion of the evaluation camps, players will be notified of their team placement. Individual team coaches and managers will then initiate practice schedules in preparation for the season.
NOTE: Tier I AA City-Wide Pee Wee and Bantam team selection camps will occur prior to the general CMHA evaluation camps. See the Tier I AA Program page for more details.
